On Monday 18 November, preparations will start for the construction of the brand-new headquarters of HR service provider SD Worx. This is done on the initiative of the main shareholder WorxInvest, the owner of the SD Worx property. The new building will replace the current SD Worx office building at Brouwersvliet 5 in Antwerp.

The new office building will have a striking exoskeleton, by the hand of Sergison Bates Architects and BULK architects. In addition to office space for around 650 employees, the building will have a co-working space, a cafeteria for the personnel and a coffee/sandwich bar. It will be a real meeting place for colleagues, customers and other relationships. It will also be possible to use the entrance hall as an exhibition space. SD Worx is envisaging an auditorium for over a hundred people and several larger rooms for training courses and meetings. Underground, there will be a parking garage and a large bicycle stand, as well as a special lift for cargo bicycles. Above ground, the building will have twelve floors with a number of outdoor terraces, three conservatories and the necessary attention to greenery.

During the intensive preliminary phase via a construction team principle between WorxInvest, the architects and contractor Van Laere, special attention was paid to sustainability. This led to the goal of achieving a “BREEAM-Outstanding” (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certificate for this building, the highest possible award.

For example, the draft design of the building includes a combination of concrete and cross-laminated timber ( CLT). Some of the materials dismantled during the demolition will also be given a second life in the new office. The office floors are designed in such a way that the spaces can be flexibly adapted depending on the time and destination. The incorporation of green spaces, green roofs and water buffering in turn promote biodiversity.

The demolition work, which is due to be completed by the summer of next year, will be followed by the archaeological survey. Then the construction of four underground building layers will begin. The plan is to start building above ground by spring 2026. The building is expected to be ready for use by the summer of 2028.
